Surgical Services
The surgical department staff believes that patient education and comfort are two very important pieces to the overall care received at Memorial Health Center. From the time your surgeon discusses surgical options, through your pre-operative preparation, to the day of surgery and beyond, our surgical staff strives to make your experience the best.

Through the expertise of a general surgeon and numerous visiting specialty surgeons, MHC offers a wide variety of inpatient and outpatient surgical services. Once scheduled for a procedure, you will receive an informational packet in the mail from the surgical nurses explaining how to begin preparations for your procedure. As your surgery date draws closer, you will receive a personal phone call from a Surgery Registered Nurse to set up your optional pre-operative teaching session. This session will begin the admission and documentation process and information gathering, easing your stress the day of surgery. At this individualized session with the Surgical RN, all your questions/concerns regarding your anesthesia, surgery, and recovery will be answered and we can assure that all your preoperative exams are completed.

Upon arrival the day of your surgery, you will be shown to our surgical waiting room where your preoperative RN will escort you to one of our 8 private preoperative areas. At this point we will complete your admission process and prep you for surgery. There will be time to allow your family to come and keep you company until we are ready to move you into the operating room. Our surgical staff will continue to update your family regarding your progress through the operative procedure.

After surgery, you will be returned to the same private bay where we now can begin your post-anesthesia care. Again you will receive individualized care from the RN and after waking up from surgery; your family is welcome to come to your side for support.

Following dismissal from the surgical area, you can expect personal phone calls from our surgical nursing staff over the course of the next 24-48 hours. These telephone calls allow us to monitor your progress, and give you the opportunity to ask additional questions. Again, we strive to make your experience at MHC the best it can be.
