Aside from the diagnostic equipment, participating in a sleep study can be similar to spending the night in a comfortable hotel room. Patients normally check in at approximately 8 p.m. and leave the following morning by 5:30 or 6:00. The sleep study consists of a noninvasive test called a polysomnogram that records a variety of body functions during sleep. Electrical activity of the brain, breathing patterns, oxygen levels, heart rate and muscle tone are monitored. Once the study is complete, the data is identified by our registered polysomnagraphers. The results are then reviewed by Dr. Norman Imes and his recommendations are given to your physician.
The sleep studies are performed by Western Sleep Medicine; appointments are offered on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
Patients need a referral to the MHC Sleep Lab from their family physician. If you would like more information on sleep disorders and sleep studies, please call 308.633.3000.
